PRESS RELEASE

An Open Letter to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the Executive Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency Babajide Sanwo-Olu

Subject: The Implications of the Continuous Closure of Markets and Demolition of Properties Owned by Ndi Igbo and Other Non-Yoruba Speaking Tribes in Lagos State

The Lagos State ADC Inclusive in Diversity Forum and the ADC National Youth Parliament express deep concern over the increasing reports of market closures and property demolitions disproportionately affecting Igbo traders and other non-Yoruba speaking residents in Lagos State.

At a time when Nigerians are already enduring severe economic hardship, these actions risk worsening the suffering of citizens who are simply striving to earn a living and contribute to the growth of Lagos state, Nigeria’s economic hub.

Lagos has long been celebrated as a home for all, a state built on diversity, enterprise, and inclusion. The Igbos and other non-Yoruba speaking communities have played a vital role in the state’s economic development and social advancement. Any actions perceived as targeting these groups could create unnecessary tension, fuel ethnic division, and undermine national unity.

We firmly believe that governance must be guided by fairness, justice, and inclusiveness. It is therefore imperative that both the Federal and Lagos State Governments take immediate steps to review and address these incidents transparently and humanely.

We appeal to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to call on the Lagos State Government and its agencies to ensure that all policies and enforcement actions are carried out in the spirit of equity and national harmony.

Nigeria cannot afford another layer of social unrest or ethnic mistrust at this fragile time. Peaceful coexistence and respect for diversity remain the foundation of a stable democracy and prosperous society.

We urge all Nigerians, regardless of tribe, faith, or political affiliation, to remain calm, law-abiding, and united as we continue to advocate for justice, equity, and good governance.

In the Spirit of Peace, Unity, and Progress.

In Solidarity,

LAGOS STATE ADC INCLUSIVE IN DIVERSITY FORUM &
ADC NATIONAL YOUTH PARLIAMENT (ADC-NYP)
