Nigeria Youth World Council Condemns Alleged Killing of Young Man in Warri, Calls for Swift Justice

The Director General of the Nigeria Youth World Council (NYWC), Rotr. Ambassador Odika Uzochukwu Nicolas Franklyn, alongside the Board of Directors, has strongly condemned the recent alleged killing of a young man in Warri, Delta State, reportedly by an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).

According to preliminary reports, the incident was unprovoked, with the victim neither posing a threat nor engaging in any unlawful activity at the time of the encounter. This tragic development has sparked widespread concern among youths and civil society groups across the country.

The NYWC describes the act as unacceptable, inhumane, and a gross violation of the rights of Nigerian citizens. The Council emphasizes that such incidents continue to erode public trust in law enforcement agencies and threaten national unity.

Speaking on behalf of the Council, the Director General called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to take immediate and decisive action. This includes launching a transparent investigation into the incident, ensuring that all officers found culpable are brought to justice, and implementing strict measures to prevent future occurrences.

“We urge the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force to act swiftly and responsibly in addressing this matter. Justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done. Failure to act promptly may heighten tensions, potentially leading to youth unrest and instability in Warri, Delta State, and across the nation,” the statement read.

The NYWC also calls on youths to remain calm and law-abiding while trusting that due process will prevail. The Council reiterates its commitment to advocating for justice, accountability, and the protection of human rights for all Nigerian youths.

The Nigeria Youth World Council stands in solidarity with the family of the deceased during this difficult time and demands that justice be served without delay.
